The Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program in Humanities of Unilab, linked to the Institute of Humanities, has the main objective of developing teaching and research activities of an interdisciplinary nature. It began its activities at the masters level in 2016, based on the thematic convergence of a group of professors-researchers from the Institute of Humanities and Letters. The Program is recognized by CAPES and recommended with note 3.0. The admission to the master’s degree takes place annually and, despite the fact that the Program does NOT guarantee the granting of scholarships, students have the possibility of receiving scholarships from CAPES, Funcap and Unilab itself.

MIH has a concentration area and two lines of research:
Interdisciplinary Studies in Humanities:

The ​​concentration area will contribute with an epistemological formation, committed to the research and/or teaching of interdisciplinary and intercultural proposals, in Humanities. With the purpose of internationalization, internalization and integration of knowledge, the master’s degree will stimulate the production and diffusion of knowledge in the field of Humanities, especially in the scope of themes listed in its lines of research: Education, Politics, Languages ​​and Labor, Development and Migration. Based on the knowledge generated by the two lines of research, the program will contribute to a critical and creative reflection on (and to minimize) the effects arising from the increasing specialization and fragmentation of scientific knowledge, concerning the respect for diversity and meanings of humanity at the present world in its multiple cultures.

Research Line 1 – Education, Politics and Languages:
This line of research aims to develop research in the field of education, politics and languages, considering the subjective and social processes that enable the identification of different groups with respect to aspects such as diversity, singularity and affirmation of historical-cultural processes. Based on an ethical, critical and interdisciplinary approach, the line of research values ​​the sharing of theories, methods and knowledge of Philosophy, Letters, Pedagogy, Sociology, Anthropology and History. As a consequence, the line focuses on the following research topics: teacher training and work, language and human science teaching, argumentation and modalities, habits and construct of personal and collective identity, gesture and educational policy, education and ethnic-racial relations , basic and higher education, international cooperation, urban and regional development, body, subjectivity and micropolitics, political economy criticism, art, aesthetics, literature and interculturality.

Research Line 2 – Labor, Development and Migration:
This research line aims to investigate the historical and social processes of communities, groups and people in intercultural contexts, especially the context of African countries and Brazil, focusing on the following themes: colonialism and postcolonialism; State, development and public policies; migration, nationalities; democracy; diaspora and cultural diversity; rites, symbolisms, integration and identities; history and class struggle; work and education; body, health and disease; memory and indigenous resistance. The knowledge produced in this line is based on the practice of an interdisciplinary praxis, counting on the analyzes of Anthropology, History, Education, Philosophy, Sociology, Letters and related areas.
